Trip to Santiago in July

Tour Overview

The Turing Trip to Santiago took place in July 2023, and participants received a blend of cultural immersion and valuable professional experience. The adventure began on Tuesday, July 11th, when 26 students travelled from Bradford to Santiago de Compostela via London Gatwick. Upon arriving, the party checked into the Eurostars San Lazaro Hotel.

The following day, July 12th, was reserved for cultural events, including a two-hour guided tour of the Cathedral’s four squares and the ancient sites of Santiago’s Old Town.

From Thursday, July 13th to Tuesday, July 18th, the emphasis moved to work experience training. These seminars took place at the Eurostars Gran Hotel Santiago and addressed themes connected to the Coding for Migrant Women Project, a successful European effort. Students engaged in daily training sessions, improving their coding skills and gaining valuable insights into digital project management.

On Saturday, July 15th, students took a guided tour of the Cathedral of Santiago and its museum, visiting the basilica, crypt, and Holy Sepulchre. In addition, the plan included many free days for participants to explore Santiago and its surroundings.

The vacation ended on Thursday, July 20th, when the group flew back to London Gatwick and then returned to Bradford via coach.

Lessons Learnt: Students obtained hands-on experience in coding, project management, and cultural heritage exploration, allowing them to balance professional development with exciting travel opportunities.
